Only One Children’s Channel Receives Rare Commendation from Parents’ Group
2011-05-02
It’s a young network, both in the age of its viewers and its time on the air, but it’s racking up accolades from parents and a well-known organization that stalwartly represents them.
Appropriately named Smile of a Child, the channel is garnering a lot of attention from parents with its commercial-free programming that emphasizes faith and values for kids from 2-12. In fact, in a recent beta research survey, one in every four adults with children indicated high interest in the network. By combining some of today’s most popular children’s programs with classic favorites, Smile offers children and their parents an enjoyable viewing experience that avoids violent or questionable content.
When the Parents Television Council reviewed Smile’s programming lineup, it awarded the entire network its coveted Entertainment Seal of Approval. Smile is the only children’s’ network to currently hold that distinction, which is shared by just four other channels. Two of those channels—TBN and JCTV—are sister channels of Smile, all operating under the TBN Networks banner.
“Smile of a Child offers both children and their parents a positive experience every time they tune in” said Bob Higley, Vice President for Cable Sales and Marketing, adding, “all of our programs entertain and educate kids, but it’s the added dimension of solid values and faith that really sets our network apart. Parents know they can trust us to provide consistently appropriate and inspiring programming for their children.”
Since its debut on Christmas Eve of 2005, Smile of a Child is now in over 15 million households and has been added to the programming lineups of hundreds of cable systems including Comcast and Charter. It is available nationwide on Verizon FiOS, AT&T U-verse and Sky Angel. Smile also broadcasts over the air in 35 major U.S. markets—along with TBN Networks’ four other digital faith-based channels.
